Small Business Statement on House Spending Bill

WASHINGTON, DC --- In response to the spending bill introduced in the US House late last night, Amanda Ballantyne, the National Director of the Main Street Alliance, a national network of small business owners, released the following statement:

“We’re encouraged to see that the House spending bill is a bipartisan effort that invests in areas critical to small businesses, namely an additional $2 billion in funding for child care and an urgently needed increase in spending on our nation’s infrastructure.

On the other hand, our Representatives missed a key opportunity to provide protection for hundreds of thousands of Dreamers whose lives and jobs are in limbo. Millions of small businesses nationwide rely on Dreamers as employees and customers, and since DACA, an impressive percentage of Dreamers have started businesses and created jobs. Yet Congressional Republicans have again failed to clean up another of Trump’s disasters and provide a solution for our country’s young immigrants.

Business owners nationwide commend the advocates who fought hard to mitigate the majority of what President Trump wanted - more racist and immoral deportations of our immigrant neighbors, employees, and customers - and urge lawmakers to continue to fight for Dreamers.”
