Over the past year Main Street Alliance has worked tirelessly to demand relief for small business owners imperiled by the COVID crisis, and has built new local programs in states. Through this work, we have expanded the possibility for small business leadership to demand equitable relief, but also to re-envision how our government invests in entrepreneurship and supports a thriving small business economy.
Main Street Alliance is strong, and we have a highly skilled team in place who knows our small business owners need support now more than ever. At a moment of growth and strength for the organization, our Executive Director, Amanda Ballantyne, who has led Main Street Alliance for the past seven years, will transition to a role on our Board of Directors this coming January, as she begins a new chapter in her career.
"I remain deeply committed to the critical voice this organization gives to small businesses across the country. I am proud to be continuing this important work through a role on our Board of Directors,” said Ballantyne. "From fighting for critical relief for small businesses suffering COVID, to fighting for universal healthcare, fair taxes, policies that create robust local economies, Main Street Alliance will continue building an economy that works for small business owners, their employees and their communities."
As we make this transition, our long time Deputy Director Stephen Michael, who has been with Main Street Alliance nearly eight years and shepherded our growth, will be shifting into the role of Interim Director.
“As we deepen our organizing in small business communities, we are committed to bringing on a new Director for Main Street Alliance who can continue to elevate this critical small business constituency, and who can speak to the racial disparities within the small business experience from a place of authenticity and with authority,” said Michael. “Main Street Alliance is entering a new chapter, and we have an incredible team in place to carry this work forward. We are excited for what comes next for this organization.”
