Main Street Alliance Statement on GOP Health Care Bill Failure

Faced with months of widespread opposition across the country, House Republicans today were too divided to garner enough support to push the American Health Care Act (AHCA) to a vote in the House. This represents a significant failure in President Trump’s and the GOP’s attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Main Street Alliance issued the following statement:

Main Street Alliance small business owners have been tirelessly working with partners throughout the country to actively oppose the AHCA, which would take healthcare away from 24 million people and decimate Medicaid. Today, we’re seeing the results of those efforts reflected in the House Republicans’ failure to get the bill to a vote. For years, small business owners had difficulty obtaining high-quality, affordable health coverage for themselves and their employees. The ACA enabled more than four million people employed in small businesses to finally obtain health care coverage. Republicans should stop trying to take that health care away, and should instead focus on strengthening the existing law to ensure Main Street communities can prosper.

I was so pleased to be part of the effort to save the Affordable Care Act and so proud to be a member of Main Street Alliance! We have a lot of work ahead of us, but after meeting so many like-minded business owners from across the nation I am confident that we can continue to grow a grass-roots economy that is vibrant, sustainable, and humane. Thank you to the leadership at MSA for bringing us all together and all of the organizing and support you provided to make this happen! – CJ
