| Welcome to Enterprising Ideas in Health |
Small
businesses are the backbone of the American economy, and the heart of
our communities. We create jobs, deliver essential goods
and services, and build communities' assets. Yet, despite these
contributions, small business are getting the short end of the stick
when it comes to health care.
Enterprising
Ideas in Health, the new e-newsletter on small business
and health care from the Main Street
Alliance, is for and about small business owners who've
had it with this broken system and are taking action to
stand up for quality, affordable health care for all of us.
The
Main Street Alliance is working to build a new voice for small
businesses that share a basic set of principles for fixing the broken
health care system. Our principles are simple: cover what we
need, when we need it… share responsibility fairly… open the door to
everyone… level the playing field… prioritize health, not insurance
industry profits. It’s not rocket science. But it’s going
to take a real ignition boost from the united voices of small
businesses to overcome the entrenched power of the insurance lobby.

A big vision for small business
Health Care Coalition Sign-On
As
small businesses, we are the backbone of the American economy and play
a key role in our communities. Our businesses create jobs,
deliver essential goods and services, and build communities’ local
assets.
Unfortunately, our health care system is failing small
businesses across America. High costs and unreliable coverage are
putting the health of our families and employees at risk, and
endangering the viability of businesses across the nation. As
small business owners, we believe this system is fundamentally broken
and we must fix it to ensure our future prosperity.
Therefore, we sign on in support of this coalition to work toward a health care system that:
• Covers what we need, when we need it. No one should lose coverage when they strike out to start a new business, get sick or change jobs.
• Shares responsibility fairly.
We need affordable and predictable costs to plan our expenses and
budgets. If everyone pays their fair share, we can make this
system work.
• Opens the door to everyone.
Everyone should have good health coverage. It shouldn’t matter
whether you run a small business or a Fortune 500 company.
• Levels the playing field. Make it easier for small businesses to compete with large corporations for good coverage and to retain quality workers.
• Prioritizes health, not insurance industry profits. The health care system should be transparent and accountable to the people it serves – us.
