Yesterday, Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici took part in a walking tour of three women-owned businesses in Beaverton, Oregon. The tour was in honor of Women's History Month and highlighted the contributions women make to the historic downtown Beaverton business district.
The Congresswoman and Main Street Alliance members discussed the challenges they face as female business owners and how they got their business started. Across trades, women face unique challenges.
Representative Bonamici shared her experience working for her mother in the small gift shop she owned. The family-owned shop was the Congresswoman's first employer and left her with increased awareness of the contributions small businesses make in their community and the unique challenges they face.
The tour included; Beaverton Bakery, owned by Carrie Ann Schubert, Sublimity Snow and Skate, owned by Stephanie McGilver and Ryan Simon, and Peonies and Possibilities, owned by Pam Clark.
